Philippine Retirement Visa (SRRV) for US Citizens: Requirements
How to Legally Retire in the Philippines and Import Your Household Goods -> Duty-Free
🛂 Retire Legally — Live Comfortably
Dreaming of living your golden years by the beach — legally, safely, and with all your belongings shipped in for free?
Thanks to the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA), retiring in the Philippines is not only possible — it’s one of the most organized, tax-friendly, and benefit-rich retirement programs in the world.
✅ What Is the Special Resident Retiree’s Visa (SRRV)?
The SRRV is a special long-term visa issued by the Philippine government through the PRA. It grants:
- ✔️ Indefinite residency — no visa renewals; the PRA ID card is renewed on a two-year cycle
- ✔️ Multiple-entry privileges
- ✔️ The right to stay in the Philippines indefinitely
- ✔️ One-time duty-free importation of household goods and personal effects, up to about USD 7,000 in value
Under the rules effective 1 September 2025, applicants place a time deposit of USD 15,000 (with a qualifying pension) or USD 30,000 (without) at age 50 and over, USD 25,000 or USD 50,000 at ages 40 to 49, or USD 1,500 under the Courtesy option for former Filipinos, retired diplomats and retired foreign military. Under the Classic option the deposit has been convertible into a condominium purchase or a long-term lease, subject to PRA conditions.
📦 Import Your Life — Tax-Free
One of the biggest perks? You get free import clearance for your household belongings — furniture, appliances, keepsakes — into the Philippines, one time, up to about USD 7,000 in value, with no taxes or duties.
This is a game-changer for retirees who want to relocate in comfort without starting from scratch or spending tens of thousands on replacements.
🌴 Who Qualifies for the SRRV?
- 📅 Age 40 and over (since 1 September 2025; the former age-35 categories were closed to new applicants)
- 💰 Must meet the deposit requirement (varies by visa type)
- 📑 Must submit an authenticated police clearance from home (plus an NBI clearance if you have been in the Philippines over 30 days), a medical clearance, and proof of pension where you use the with-pension tier (at least USD 800 a month single, USD 1,000 a couple)
The options today are SRRV Classic (with or without pension) and SRRV Courtesy (former Filipinos, retired diplomats and officers of international organisations, and retired foreign military with a pension); the Smile and Human Touch options were closed to new applicants in September 2025. Separate from the deposit, budget a one-time processing fee of about USD 1,400 for the principal applicant and USD 300 per dependent, and an annual membership fee of USD 360 covering the principal and two dependents (USD 100 for each additional dependent). We help you choose the right option.
